May 24, 2014: George Thorogood and his band The Destroyers have been touring Canada to celebrate his 40th year touring. On Saturday May 24, 2014 they made a stop in Halifax for a show at The Metro Centre. Thanks to the wonderful people at Sonic Entertainment Group I was able to score a photo pass to shoot the first 3 songs of his show.
Personally I have seen George perform on several occasions dating back to the early 80’s. He frequently played the Halifax club scene back in the day when Halifax’s nightlife was world class. I know I saw him at The Misty Moon when it was on Kempt Rd, as well as The Crazy Horse here on the darkside.
As I waited for the show to begin, myself and Allan Zilkowsky (who’s photography always blows me away) quietly discussed our options for the shoot. We were asked to sign a waiver in order to shoot the show, and expected to have to shoot from the soundboard, which would have been less then an ideal situation. As 9:00 PM approached one of the Metro Centre Staff came out back to guide us to our shoot. As we were walking onto the floor of the Metro Centre, the gentlemen leading us out asked if we would prefer to shoot from the pit. We both quickly said yes and then proceeded to what is referred to as the pit. The pit is an area located between the front row of seats and the stage directly in front of the stage.
It’s amazing how quickly 3 songs go by. On my way out of the pit I regretted not purchasing a ticket to the show and if the remainder of the concert was as good as the first 3 songs, Halifax was in for a rockin’ show. Please check out some more photo’s from the show and visit my Facebook page for more updates on the local live music scene.
